1. All burials shall be under the supervision of Salem Cemetery Burial Co-ordinator.
2. The location of any grave or burial site shall be established and marked by a member of the Cemetery Committee.
3. No grave can be prepared by any other person other than a Salem Cemetery Committee representative.
4. No burial or installation of any monument, marker or inscription is permitted until an Interment Rights Certificate has been provided to the Committee.  For all proposed burials, the Burial Coordinator shall confirm Interment Rights with the Salem Cemetery Sales/Record Keeper.  The sales record keeper may first need to request and receive a letter from all eligible family members granting permission for interment of a person not identified when Interment Rights were purchased.  The Certificate needs to be provided by the Rights Holder.
5. No interment shall take place between November 1 and March 31, otherwise known as the “off-season”, unless it is at the discretion of the Cemetery Committee.  Funeral Directors must obtain permission for interment prior to finalizing interment plans with their customer families.
6. The Salem Cemetery Burial Co-ordinator requires at least forty-eight hours’ notice, exclusive of Sundays and Holidays, for any interment.
7. At the time of interment, the family, clergy or funeral director must give the Death Certificate to the Salem Cemetery Burial Co-ordinator or Committee representative. 
8. Double depth casket burials are not conducted or permitted at any time.
9. Remains to be interred in a lot must be enclosed in a securely sealed container of sufficient strength to permit interment with the container remaining intact. The container must also be of a size to permit interment within the size of the lot.
10. In a single casket lot, all urns are buried at 2ft, 4ft and 6ft spacing.
11. The Burial Coordinator shall exercise all due care in overseeing interments.
12. The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to determine if weather conditions are adverse enough to prevent an interment. 

On the Day of Interment

At the time of a planned burial, the family, executor  and/or funeral home must contact the Cemetery Committee to:

• Confirm burial rights and lot location
• Pay an interment fee of $200 which covers the supervision of the opening and closing of the grave
• Provide the Death Certificate

A member of the Committee must be present for the preparation of the grave & at the time of burial.

• The plot will be opened for interment by the Committee
• A small table will be provided to place the urn
• The service will be guided by your chosen Funeral Director, your chosen Clergy, or your family / friend
• You have the option of placing the urn in the ground yourself, or you can leave the urn on the table and a Committee member will place it in the hole and close the grave once you leave
• Flowers can be left – they will be removed once they wilt, or if they obstruct maintenance of the cemetery

• The family/funeral home is responsible for the arrangement and payment of the excavation and/or closing of the grave site
• Unless the family makes arrangements to have the grave prepared through the funeral home ahead of time, there will be a dry burial.  A stand for the coffin is provided. The grave is prepared after the ceremony and the casket is lowered after the service and closed.
• The service will be guided by your chosen Funeral Director from the funeral home, your chosen Clergy, or your family/friend  
• Flowers may be left – they will be removed once they wilt, or if they obstruct maintenance of the cemetery

• We ask that you remain at the plot no more than 1/2 hour after your service so that our groundskeeper can finalize his duties.You may congregate and visit with each other in the parking lot.
• Potted plants should be taken home, as they are not allowed to be planted on the plot.
• Donations are always welcome to Salem United Church Cemetery to further beautify the grounds.
